A medium-sized mammal with a stocky body and hardly any neck. It has a more developed front end (forequarters).

Males are 5–10% larger than females and have a longer skull. In males, the size of the canine teeth (tusks) is clearly noticeable.

Adult males weigh between 75 and 85 kg, and females between 55 and 65 kg.

Wild boar can live for 10–11 years, but they usually do not live beyond three years.
