Scientific name: Lynx pardinus
Order: Carnivora
Family: Felidae

It is a small lynx species endemic to the Iberian Peninsula. Males have an average weight of 13 kg and females almost 10 kg. They have a relatively small head, long legs, and a short tail ending in a small tuft of short black hair. Their face is rounded, with large pointed ears topped with black, stiff hair tufts called ear tufts.

Also characteristic are the “sideburns” hanging from their cheeks, long hair tufts that frame the sides of the face. They appear from the first year of life, when they barely hang below the chin, and they grow larger with age. Males have longer, darker sideburns and ear tufts than females.

The coat is brownish in tone, speckled with black spots whose pattern can vary from one individual to another.
